It sounds much more impressive when you say "during the ninth century, much of Europe was ruled by Charlemagne, who often personally lead his wars accompanied by his sword Joyeuse" . . .


. . .as opposed to when you say, "In the eight hundreds in Europe, a guy named Big Karl was in charge, and he totally fought with a sword he called 'Happy'."


Context is that history is much more ridiculous than you might think.
