hunningham: Woman peering out from a book. (More with Reading)
[personal profile] hunningham posting in [community profile] metaquotes
Spider Robinson's books have not so much been visited by the Suck Fairy as been used as bricks to build a Suck Fairy hostel with discounts for repeat business.
Context is you might have fond memories of Robinson, but really, don't go back.

this hurts so much because I discovered Spider Robinson in middle school and was having a really rough time (weren't we all). The Callahan series was so fucking formative for me.

...but. yeah. Not wrong.

(still want a Callahan movie though ngl)

As soon as I saw "Spider" I knew where this quote was going.

And yes, his stuff made such a deep impression on my teenage brain that I was mulling over something I'd read 40 years ago.

And I wouldn't dream of touching them again.

I haven’t read Robinson lately, but I don’t think I’d react this way to rereading CALLAHAN’S CROSSTIME SALOON. At his best, he could be genuinely very good.
