Edit: fuck, I forgot to include Smallville! Uh, vote for that as the last option I guess.

1. Results will be non-binding

2. I will not watch anything starring anybody who then went on to perform in the God's Not Dead franchise. This isn't even about their abhorrent beliefs, it's about their apparently low artistic standards. I only am barely including Xena on this list because we can just skip crossover episodes. Please do let me know if I accidentally listed a Big Mistake in that regard

Spotting the local bunny last week.

I saw my first Forsythias blooming today. And my first daffodils.

Temps got up to 70F (21 C) today.

Roaming hoards of tweens/teens spotted on their bikes while I was running errands this evening.

The sun didn’t set until almost 7:30 today.

Behold my works: today I went to the leisure centre, and went into the leisure centre, and went into the gym, and poked around a bit, and retreated to the stairwell to hyperventilate... and then WENT TO A CHANGING SPACE and CHANGED MY CLOTHING and went back into the gym. And picked! things! up!!! and put them down again!!!!!

I have now Touched Barbell, appear to have accidentally skipped most of Phase 2 of Liftoff in favour of Barbells, Apparently, but honestly the biggest and most exciting bit of this is that I did go back into The Gym and I did push through the social anxiety of What If I'm Doing It Wrong.

It is an excellent time of year to be doing this; the cherries on the way from the gym to the bus stop are in full and exuberant flower.

Support for Workplace Banana Bread comes from Viewers Like You and from my roommate, who keeps disavowing her bananas as soon as they get one (1) freckle.

The King Arthur banana bread recipe is, unsurprisingly, a smash hit.

Gotta be It Could Happen Here's "The Jewish Bund and Political Imagination." Molly Crabapple's been doing the podcast tour for her new book on the Bund, and in this one, Dana El Kurd interviews her about it. That's it, if you know me you know I have an endless appetite for such things. I also have the book but I haven't read it yet due to trying to make it through the Nebula shortlist first.

1. Tracking writing-related stuff daily so doesn't work for me and my brain. I track wordcounts only monthly for a reason!! Because I was planning to finish this proofreading within two weeks or so, I thought I would therefore update my little chart thing to track by day rather than by week so the chart looks more interesting. It does look cool! But tracking daily means I read high numbers as "This is what I am capable of" and any day in which I could only manage 15 minutes or so as a failure. May have to weeklify this chart after all.

2. Especially because, while finishing within two weeks would be convenient for a variety of reasons, I'm not sure the proofreading will go as fast as I hoped. My thought were: okay, the story is a third longer than it was last time I proofread it, but only the new stuff might sound janky! Well. It's been over a year since the last time I proofread, so sentences give me different feelings now. The first chapter hadn't changed a ton, maybe 600 new words, but I spent 3h on it anyway. Just like the average last round: proofread 10 chapters in a little under 3 weeks, average time per chapter 2h54. I have 14 chapters now. Grumbles, grumbles.

3. Thinking a lot about what I want to learn next. The last couple of years have been about "process" especially around editing, what works well for me in general, how to actually edit a big project, how to manage my stamina through it. Over the last couple of months, I've been learning about structure, and loving it. Like, there will be more to learn there for sure, but for the time being I need to put into practice my new learning until it comes more naturally. While this is happening, I really want to improve how I write sentences. Line editing, I guess? My writing feels very weak there right now, or not where I'd like it to be. It won't be something I apply on the witch (would require a complete rewrite), but it's something I hope to pay more attention to for the Soul Thief. Reflecting too on how I want to learn and how I could organise myself for it. For example, I got a copy of Le Guin's "Steering the Craft" a while back that sounds like it should fit the bill? But I found it very intimidating, and I'm not good at just doing exercises either. It's easier when learning happens as part of a real story. Anyway, whatever I end up doing next, it seems like I'm moving from a "learning process" to a "learning craft" kinda mood, for the next while!

Meanwhile, in RL...

I'm trying to self-file my taxes and I've hit a segment I don't think they had last year that's stopped me dead. I can't get it to make sense as to what information from where they want me to enter. I think I don't have to do the lump sum payment section because I didn't get one but I'm not sure, so I'll be traveling to a RL site to try to get some free help since the person who answered my call for help through taxslayer.com wasn't very helpful for me. I don't know if it's their fault, my fault, or both our faults, but....

++++

I uploaded these photos to include on a comment to someone, but since I put them up I figured I'd share them with you guys.

I was born in 1973, and looking at old photos of my childhood shows that I was dressed in... some things. In the ones below, my parents seem to have been aiming for a "literal embodiment of the 1970s" vibe. photos )

(I do get such a big smile at the last photo though.)

Continuing the "very 70s" thing, I remember my childhood clothes in that decade being either very girly or rather butch, which went along with how my toys were dolls, plushes, trucks, cars, and action figures. Also in my childhood wardrobe were some clothes my mother made for me off Simplicity patterns: I remember in particular a dark blue jumpsuit that had several patches sewn to the knees since even then I fell a lot and a Holly Hobbie sundress and a Raggedy Ann one.

And we can barely pay it if we don't pay for a few other things. Maybe they'll let us write two checks.

On the other hand, if the USA decides drop nukes during the installation, probably the company won't trouble themselves too much about payment. We'll be home free! Well, assuming nobody retaliates on NYC specifically....

We're coming to the time of year when [community profile] 3weeks4dreamwidth usually runs, and [personal profile] goodbyebird posted an interest check post in the community to see if folks were interested in doing it and what their plans might be for it.

I will be posting an updated list of my community recs post. The last time I posted it was in January for [community profile] snowflake_challenge, but I've stealth added a few more since then. I'm ALWAYS on the lookout for good communities, so if you know of any and want to see it added to the list, let me know!

I also am giving some thoughts to posting daily during the duration, but I'd need something to post about. I'm considering the following:

1. one creative thing I did today
2. one thing I'm proud of today
3. video game progress? I play video games daily, so that would be something easy I could do

It's the time of night when I turn into a sack of goo, so I have no brain for anything else at the moment. Guess I'd better brush my teeth and go to bed.

  1. Therapist was Mean and got me to do the thing of substituting "I'm excited about" for "I'm anxious about". I Have Signed Up For The Gym, without first fixing my bike, and might even make it there Tomorrow.
  2. On the one hand Wagamama have dropped my default order from their menu again ('tis the season!), and on the other they have introduced a gochujang-tamarind-sesame corn "ribs" situation that I am very pleased to have tried.
  3. Social wiggles were OUTSIDE because we have achieved LIGHT ENOUGH EVENINGS.
  4. I have almost finished A's gloves??? All That Remains is Weaving In The Second Set Of Ends.
  5. Lebkuchen And A Glass Of Milk.
