If you suddenly, totally unexpectedly, came face to face with a segment of Charles Babbage's Difference Engine that was only a pane of glass away from you, would you also have the urge to lick it? Really think about it. The Difference Engine, right there. It's not a clear-cut situation.

I actually stood one meter away from a Z3 multiplying numbers earlier this year. Too many people to lick without total embarrassment. :(

I remember seeing some of the working models in the Science Museum in London. That was the same trip when my mother was upset to find that there were things in the history of computing section that she used to use at work.

Dammit. Now whenever I see a historical scientific artifact I'm going to wonder what it's like to lick it. This is going to be super embarrassing if I ever go to that famous vibrator museum.
