Science moves in mysterious ways

I just remembered why I love science.

Sodium is a metal that will explode in water. If you ate a chunk of it, you probably would die.
Chlorine is a gas that can and will kill you because it thinks you looked at it funny.

Together they fight crime! As table salt. Fucking table salt.

It's like, I dunno, it's like if Maleficent and Scar had a baby and that baby was not a horrific rampaging monster with eye lasers and fire claws but was instead Blessed Mary MacKillop! Who could have had eye lasers and fire claws, I guess, but just never used them. Or -- or they are eye lasers of healing lasers and fire claws of holy spiritual fire? That would be okay? This analogy was never destined to work.

and, of course, the kicker is that *lack* of Sodium Chloride is a bad thing (in extremis *very* bad thing)
