I know I confused myself once with $remote (that's the logged in person), $u (that's the person whose journal we are watching), $journal (that's the journal the post was made in - not the same as $u, since this could be $u's reading page), and $poster (person who made the post, not the same as $journal, as that could be a community).
So remember people, if you are logged in, viewing another person's reading page and see a community post by someone not you or that person, $remote/$u/$journal/$poster are having a foursome somewhere in the code.
