Note to self, you should maybe consider not going directly from advice columns like Captain Awkward to feature reviews of antimalware products like ESET.

PUA means two very different things depending on which one of those you're reading and ESET is not capable of protecting anybody from pickup artists.

then again your average PUA is probably a potentially unwanted application made flesh, anyway.

Context wishes you could class douchebags as malware.

My twitter feed is a mix of librarians, lawyers, writers and a lawyer who is also a soccer fan.

I FEEL this "jesus what acronym reference set am I using" problem, man.

The payment kiosk and public printer where I work are officially called the PoS and the MFD.

Technically, this does not stand for "Piece of ----" and "Mother----ing Device". But it should.

Given payment kiosk, Point of Sales, I'd guess? Which, well. MOST point of sales software/etc. is deserving of the epithetical alternative expansion of that acronym, frankly.

...no idea about MFD, tho. Possibly because I've never actually dealt with public printers. Kitchen printers, yes; public ones, not so much.

Occasionally I have gone "do the people who sell these know what else that acronym is?" And then I'm like, yeah, actually, I'm pretty sure they know what they're selling.

MFD is theoretically multi-function device, because it's a combined printer/copier/scanner/fax/payment center/computer sign-in. They got to replace the separate printer, copier, scanner, fax, and sign-in station, because it would "be so much more convenient!" and failed to listen when it was pointed out to them repeatedly that that meant the line would be five times as long at all times.

This! Particularly because I used to work in an area that used a lot of chemistry acronyms, and I don't speak chemist, and those sites were very rarely helpful. I did eventually find the acronym site to rule them all, and bookmarked it, but failed to realise that when I stopped working there, I would still want to know what that site was :(
