It was a genuine revelation, and Polgara was a very important influence to my actually developing a sense of self that didn't boil down to "I am going to hide under the bed until you all stop telling me I can't be things".

I'm glad you had that. I can't remember who referred to the ability to extract life-saving concepts from mediocre art as panning for gold, but it's not to be discounted.
