Dear Boy Epically Striking Out With His Cute Friend Behind Me On The Bus,

For six blocks, I thought I was idly eavesdropping on half of a conversation that you were having on your phone with a person not physically present. These were not blocks that went by in a blur of speed, Epically Striking Out Boy. They were bus blocks. During rush hour. I got to listen to a fair amount of your conversation. And I will admit that your conversation is interesting! However, the first thing you need to know, Epically Striking Out Boy, is that if it takes six bus blocks for your friend whom you are talking with - with - to get a word in - even a word like "mm-hm" - it doesn't matter how interesting your conversation is. She might have been interested in you! Her interest in you would be like a delicate little shoot, poking its head up from the potting soil of indifference, a sprout which needs the air of personal space and the light of physical attraction and the time of time to be able grow. You just dumped several dozen pounds of the fertilizer of your personality on that sprout.

Context gets funnier and funnier.

So there's this George Takei ring tone, where he says "Oh My!" Just that one line, said in you know, his normal awesome George Takei voice.

I got it the other day, and of course immediately set it as the default ring for my phone. And then I got [livejournal.com profile] midoriseppen to call me so that I could make sure I'd done it right.

My phone started to vibrate in my hand. And then I heard a very faint "Ohhh My!" and then the phone vibrated again, and a louder "Ohhh My!", and it kept going on like that. I was rolling around on my bed giggling uncontrollably.

I'd forgotten that my phone both vibrates and rings audibly when I don't have it silenced (it is always silenced). I hadn't thought about how that combination would sound, and then you throw in the fact that my phone ramps up the audio based upon how long the phone is ringing... and yeah, if I don't get it on the first or second ring, it's so loud and he's so emphatic, that I'm not sure I want to answer the phone, because it seems rude to interrupt him at that point.
